Mangoes came to the Americas through Florida in early 1900. It is said that among the first to arrive was the sandersha cultivar. From here many cultivars came into existence, however a few seemed to hold well with good shelf life. From the Americas, these varieties were adopted by other American nations such as Mexico, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and other Island nations. Some varieties reached other countries directly as well directly with the migration of Indian to places like the Caribbean. For example, Bombay is a popular variety that is extensively grown in the Caribbean.
